I just discovered from my results status page that two FAAH work units have been reported as Error. I checked my computer logs and it appears each work unit crashed for the same reason and the crash occurred as soon as the work unit was started. Here is a copy of the Error log from results page and my local log.
Any suggestions as to whether something was wrong on my end? I've turned off FAAH until I can resolve. Windows ME? I'm not even sure that's a supported platform. For FightAIDS@Home, the minimum requirements are: * Operating System: Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP I'm sure in a year or two it won't be supported... edit: On M$ web site.... End of support for Windows 98 and Windows Me July 11, 2006 will bring a close to Extended Support for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me as part of the Microsoft Lifecycle Policy. Microsoft will retire public and technical support, including security updates, by this date. Existing support documents and content, however, will continue to be available through the Microsoft Support Product Solution Center Web site. This Web site will continue to host a wealth of previous How-to, Troubleshooting, and Configuration content for anyone who may need self-service. Microsoft is retiring support for these products because they are outdated and can expose customers to security risks. We recommend that customers who are still running Windows 98 or Windows Me upgrade to a newer, more secure Microsoft operating system, such as Windows XP, as soon as possible. I don't use the screensaver mode or view the graphics. In fact, I just turned the graphics on just now on the cancer project that's currently running just to see what they are; I had never bothered to view them before this. I'll read the thread you pointed out and see what I can do. But, with an obsolete Win ME OS and a 7 year old computer, I don't think there's much to do by way of new drivers, etc. I'll be buying a new system later on this year. |

However, I noticed a posting in the Known issues forum a day or two after I reported my error, that an updated version was released "for FightAIDS@Home. There was a issue with the new graphics API that was causing a few errors. This has been fixed in the new version." So, I turned FAAH project back on and I am sucessfully crunching a work unit under 6.05 version. I think my two prior reported errors on FAAH work units may have been related to the older version rather than to a computer problem on my end. |

Hi mikefinn,
one of your error logs also referred to a DLL initialisation error. If your system is getting a bit long in the tooth it could worth checking that your hardware is running well - specifically the disk / memory. I don't want to cause you unnecessary alarm - but it's worth checking the system to make sure it's got a clean bill of health .... Cheers, Sean |

So, I turned FAAH project back on and I am sucessfully crunching a work unit under 6.05 version. I think my two prior reported errors on FAAH work units may have been related to the older version rather than to a computer problem on my end. Yes, right around now errors are displayed if a 6.04 and 6.05 try to validate the same workunit. Full point credit is temporarily being given for errors. In another week or two, if errors are still coming out, then we'll talk about bad memory in the computer or excessive overclocking, etc.

I just got this error message. I was just starting this workunit when it errored out just now. Any ideas on the cause of the problem? It is not overclocking because I reduced my CPU speed back to normal a few days ago. My memory checks out good and my system is not overheated.
