From Known Issues [read only]

Experiencing Boinc server problem

Members may notice that their agent cannot return results or get new work units at this time. We are looking into the problem. No action is required on the part of members. The boinc agent will automatically recover when the problem on the servers is resolved. Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Re: Feb 28, 2010: Temporary Down for Website and BOINC Upload/Download

Isn't there a maximum number of upload retries whereafter a task will abort?
If so, I could loose over 2 days of HFCC-work.
For the moment I loaded work of another project and suspend networking activity.
I hope the WCG Server problem with soon be solved.

Re: Feb 28, 2010: Temporary Down for Website and BOINC Upload/Download

Old hand at the game, I've switched to scheduled networking, each client having different 15 minute time-frame, the first one at 11:30 UTC, after which the client will go off-line again, my Monday, being east of 00:00 UTC set at 00:30 CET, to try again.

ALSO, it have to be many retries and UNLESS you keep hammering the update/retry now button it will be quite a few days before that self abort / too many upload attempts occurs. If allowing to let the client do the scheduling, the agent will back-off with ever increasing deferrals times so as not to cause a flood of contacts when the servers do come back. This is one of the more major concerns the longer the servers are off-line, a quasi DDOS event.

edit: See post further down by Ingleside for more detail.

- No Retry restriction (but we'll send you a warning if you keep endlessly retrying ;-)
- WCG Clients 5.10.45 and 6.2.28 have a 14 day timeout starting from first upload attempt.
- Client 6.10 has a 90 day timeout, rule as above.
- With the unofficial grace period, anything returned further out than deadline + 7 days and still in the Result Status listings is Too Late / No Credit. Anything cleared from the RS pages will not be accepted.

Re: Feb 28, 2010: Temporary Down for Website and BOINC Upload/Download

Hello,
within 3 years, I did never lost results because of server problems. You only need to be patient and to wait.
In case, the boinc agent still has a problem to upload WUs after WCG servers become again operational, I can recommend to follow the procedure below:
  • Reboot the host
  • Wait 5 - 10 minutes
  • If the boinc agent still reports communication trouble, click on the "transfer" register
  • Select a WU and click on the "Retry Now" button (you have to repeat this step for each pending WU).

Have a nice day,
Yves
