Re: New BETA Linux Test

All beta's run and upload fine so far. Only former mentioned http errors when asking work during upload.

Within all tasks the jobnumbers 2, 13, 14 and 15 have a much longer runtime than the other jobs of the 16 total.
Because end of a job within a task also means a new checkpoint, I'll give the average checkpoints after percentage runtime progress.

Jobnumber 0 up to 15:

0,4% - 1,5% - 23,8% - 25,0% - 26,0% - 27,1% - 28,0% - 29,3% - 30,2% - 31,4% - 33,7% - 35,0% - 42,0% - 59,8% - 77,5% - 100%

Re: New BETA Linux Test

I was able to monitor the upload of 1 big file. 26866K uploaded in 10 minutes (47KBps).

During the upload the client requested 4 times new work.

1 time the server answered:

World Community Grid 26-06-2010 09:05:38 UTC Scheduler request failed: SSL connect error

Re: New BETA Linux Test

Just one point about editing files in Boinc..

Its probably worth stopping the boinc application before editting any files in boinc directories.

In terminal

sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client stop
after
sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client start

Re: New BETA Linux Test

The client can be configured to limit the number of simultaneous file transfers, per project and overall. In past experimented what worked best from here and came to 6 overall and 3 per project. Never set it to 1 as when there is a transfer issue with 1 file [very big file e.g.], it will block all other [smaller] transfers.

<max_file_xfers>6</max_file_xfers>
(default is 8)
<max_file_xfers_per_project>3</max_file_xfers_per_project> (default is 2)

Re: New BETA Linux Test

And again the good old reset game:
One Beta from 34.xx % back to 1.4% after a hold of the WU.
BETA_ A.26.C22H15NS2Si.6.0.set1d06_ 1--

The other WU did only lose ~1%. (LAIM activated).

Re: New BETA Linux Test

Don't know... my quad client still gets new Beta assignments for every completed one. So far 22 received, 22 valid or PV.

edit: The last one is a repair job due on the 28th... confirmation of R++ rating.

This is what I narrowed it down to. I thought it might just be my configuration but if others are seeing the same thing...

Anyway, when it's uploading the 23MB chunk, nothing else goes through the internet connection. I have a 768 connection so it's not an issue with bandwidth. I watched as the smaller uploads failed repeatedly until the large one was finished then they uploaded just fine.

This bottleneck is also noticed on my other computers. Basically, it blocks all other traffic until that file is uploaded. It's as if the client is trying to shove a watermelon through a straw.
