Linux huh?

Any reason why Linux was given precendence over other/all OS's when developing?

Probably because the software was already written or easier to write for Linux and they have to port it to the other OSes. It will be available for all before July 17 - what's the big deal?

Re: Linux huh?

They need to test a lot of things.
This app is using bandwith a lot.
I think they have new upload server.
So they need to launch project in smaller scale.
So using only linux platform is the easiest way to do that.

Re: Linux huh?

I will wait for July 17th as I have no computer configured to run Linux. Perhaps will switch one of my older ones over just to see whats up but certainly will not have enough memory or hard drive space to run CEP-2.

See Sek's comment.... basically .... the Q-Chem software gave us lots of challenges while preparing it to run on the grid.

Behind the scenes, we always prepare Linux first, then Windows and Mac. Each of these are thoroughtly tested by a developer, followed by a formal internal Alpha test, then a formal external Beta test, then launch.

For CEP2 we finished Linux and decided to go ahead with the launch rather than wait until the Mac and Windows version were finished. That would give us time time to ensure that everything is working as it should. And would give the researchers time to ensure that it's producing valid results.

At this time we are testing both Mac and Windows.
