Re: New Set of Beta WU's - FAAH

With one reservation not mentioned in the original post: BOINC has to be stopped completely, including the service i.e. a full exit, for an edit to stick. BOINC keeps a copy in memory while running and "over"-writes the disk-copy.

Re: New Set of Beta WU's - FAAH

I am curious about what will be learned from each of the reasearch projects running "beta" tests using apparently existing science tasks? Surely the beta tests are long past and the applications have proven stable?

It's not the applications that's being beta-tested, but instead they're beta-testing new Download-servers.

Sending work to all the various active projects therefore can answer questions about server-load, configuration, work-generating-scripts for all projects and more things.

As for why to add new download-server, this can be due to current setup has problems with current load or disk-space, or, it's also possible WCG will "soon" release a new project with so large wu-downloads that disk-space on the old server is too small to handle it...

Re: New Set of Beta WU's - FAAH

One of my wingmen ran into this error. Was valid for me and the other wingman:

------------------------------------------

Followed by a whole bunch of debug info (I can post it if needed, but it's a bit long). Is this some kind of BOINC crash instead of a problem with the science app?

In the log above, I've bolded the suspect entry. That implies it ran 10x estimated runtime. Hard to comprehend given the test is now about 14 hours old, but if the original estimates in the first lot were that much off, then it could have happened.

2 cent spec.

Seems to make sense. But indeed hard to comprehend, also because the reported CPU time is only 2.14 hours. confused

"new download servers" is rather interesting way of formulating this, factually correct from the WCG members optique. Not my place to tell what it entails / what's done behind the scenes, think though there could be an announcement to develop some new PR from this... after that the sky has a/an ... and think it could make it into that new 6.12 tab :P

Re: New Set of Beta WU's - FAAH

Herna, you posted CEP2 normal production result logs. Beta jobs have BETA in the name as prefix, unless WCG does a real stealthy test which could then go via the normal production feeders.

Thanks SekeRob. My bad, i just mixed up the result logs blushing

Just got one more a few secs ago biggrin

One more and it's "ßadge" time love struck

edit: new work unit was a re-sent. 2 wingmen errored out after 5 hrs.

Re: New Set of Beta WU's - FAAH

Had a similar fail -161 as one reported in this thread and from the time reported compared to time last seen at near 80%, have the suspicion that it happened right at completion. Other beta [the rush job] was valid off same machine.

From the BFS wiki:
ERR_NOT_FOUND -161

This happens when you have an inconsistent client_state.xml file. Files aren't written to it.
Task not found would be the error message.
