Invalid result - Mountain Lion and 7.0.31 related?

TKH mentioned will be observing client behavior.

Curious if the other 6.10.58 clients are pre-Mountain Lion.

Project Name: Drug Search for Leishmaniasis

Top of my result file has this beginning entry:

"dyld: DYLD_ environment variables being ignored because main executable (/Library/Application Support/BOINC Data/slots/0/../../switcher/switcher) is setuid or setgid"

Other than this WU, haven't seen any problems crunching with Mountain Lion.

Re: Invalid result - Mountain Lion and 7.0.31 related?

I have seen lot of problems with Malaria and Schistosoma with ML Boinc 7.0.31 , no problem with Leishmaniasis so far. I hope it is just exception confirming rule :-)

Cheers and NI!

Edit to update: Had lot of Invalids recently, so I moved DSFL from Mac to Win only (weaker PC) :-(

Re: Invalid result - Mountain Lion and 7.0.31 related?

I have similar invalid results on DSFL.
But my situation looks OPPOSITE to yours.

I'm using Mac OS X 10.7.4 and BOINC version 6.12.43.

I'm not sure whether the valid 2 wingmen (_0 and _2) are using Mountain Lion or not, though, but top of the results files begin with following message, EXCEPT MINE.

dyld: DYLD_ environment variables being ignored because main executable (/Library/Application Support/BOINC Data/slots/5/../../switcher/switcher) is setuid or setgid

The application version seems to be same (625). I don't know what is causing those different results, and which of them is ACTUALLY valid or invalid. confused

Re: Invalid result - Mountain Lion and 7.0.31 related?

Never mind, if they will repair their WU's, I will continue to shrub them on my Mac. If they will not, there are still lot of other WCG sub-projects :-)

btw: I think the recommended version for Lion is 7.0.28 - have you tried it?

[OT]btw2: I recommend to upgrade to Mountain Lion, it is worth it :-)[/OT]

Yeah, I agree! smile I'll wait and see how it goes.

I'm hesitating to upgrade to 7.x, because some of my backup projects have problems on 7.x yet so far (e.g. Rosetta@home).
When those problems are solved, and 7.x is officially recommended by WCG, I'll try 7.x (and Mountain Lion too wink )

[OT] Sure, it is always time to move forward :-)

In the meantime you can go through this excellent summary of new features of ML http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/07/os-x-10-8/ [/OT]

Re: Invalid result - Mountain Lion and 7.0.31 related?

I have seen this same problem and have watched it as I upgraded two computers. It appears to be an OS X version matching issue. Could we get the WCG techs to look into it?

Observations:
1) OS X versions prior to 10.8 (Mountain Lion) seem to complete with no error reported. Computers running 10.8 report an error like the following:

dyld: DYLD_ environment variables being ignored because main executable (/Library/Application Support/BOINC Data/slots/3/../../switcher/switcher) is setuid or setgid

I did not see this error at all on a 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) system or a 10.7.5 (Lion) system, and both systems report this error every time after upgrading to 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion).

2) Reviewing some Valid and Invalid DSFL results from these two computers, it seems that when my computer and my wing man both do not have the error (both not Mountain Lion), they are both marked Valid. Also, when my computer and wing man both do have the error (both Mountain Lion), they are also both marked Valid. However, when my computer and my wing man report one with the error and one without the error (one Mountain Lion, one not), another copy of the task is sent out. Then, whichever computer matches this third computer reporting the error (Mountain Lion) or not (not Mountain Lion) is marked Valid, and the one that does not match is marked Invalid.

Hypothesis: For DSFL tasks, computers running Mountain Lion match only other computers running Mountain Lion.

Could the WCG techs confirm my observations on a wider set of results and determine whether Mountain Lion needs to be separated from other versions of OS X on DSFL (or if there is a bug that needs to be corrected)?

Query: If my hypothesis is correct, is it impacting the accuracy of the science? Mountain Lion seems to return consistent results for DSFL across computers, but are they correct results if they do not match results returned by computers running prior versions of OS X?

Thank you,
Tommy

Re: Invalid result - Mountain Lion and 7.0.31 related?

Not only Mountain Lion !

After a couple of months, I switched back last week to DSFL for one of my hosts (Athlon II x4, Ubuntu 10.04 x64, Boinc 6.12.28).
I have now around 60-75% of invalid results for this host.
Frankly, I do not really understand why this host is really reliable with HCMD2 (close to 0 error), generate regularly "Segment Fault" with HFCC, and is unable to reliably generate valid result for DSFL (although no error occures during computation).
It is finally boring since this "behaviour" is the same for all VINA based projects. The novelty is the SegFault problem with HFCC.

The discrimination against AMD and/or Linux based hosts is dubious.

Yves

PS: I have exactly the same host running WinXP Pro SP3 which computes successfully for HFCC without any failure !!!

Re: Invalid result - Mountain Lion and 7.0.31 related?

I don't think it is anyhow connected to AMD. Since few weeks I am getting only invalid results from GFAM - another VINA project - while running it on Intel i7 3770 (non-overclocked) on Win 7 64 bit, BM 7.0.38 sad

Well, maybe techs will find out what is the problem.

Cheers
