Is there any update as to the likelihood of a change on forum software? This has not been updated since 2008 and if you visit the MVN site it seems 'dead'. There does not seem to have been any activity for ages and if you visit the majority of links on their 'Portfolio' tab they are broken or the site does not exist anymore.......an update on the situation would be greatly appreciated

Scribe, we have no plans to update the software. What particular forum changes were you hoping for?

What particular forum changes were you hoping for? jhindo This post by twilyth and the subsequent discussion will give you some idea of the concerns and ideas re the forum software. ...the divergence in functionality between the software we have here and what is generally considered "acceptable", especially for a site run under the auspices of a tech company like IBM, is only going to continue to grow. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by jonnieb-uk at Dec 10, 2013 11:57:31 PM] |

Scribe, we have no plans to update the software. What particular forum changes were you hoping for? As someone who spends a lot of time preparing data for presentation in this forum, (see example ), any forum software package with more than the basic formatting tools available in mvnForum, would be an improvement e.g. Tables, Columns etc Additionally as repeatedly mentioned in the forum, and in my response to the survey, the abilty to upload an error log or BOINC event log as an attachment to a forum message would surely be a great advantage when it comes to problem solving by techs or CAs. |

Thanks for the responses. As I mentioned, we have no plans to upgrade the software in the near future, but we've noted your feedback on what kind of features you'd like to see for whenever we get to working on this.

Was there no March survey item on this [15,xxx responses and not a single mention of a rudimentary rating?... The copyright at bottom says 2008, last news item by makers... 2008 http://www.mvnforum.com/mvnforumweb/index.jsp?main_idx=1. Just saying, for those who live on these forums it's... [I take the 5th] ;?)

Thanks for the responses. As I mentioned, we have no plans to upgrade the software in the near future, but we've noted your feedback on what kind of features you'd like to see for whenever we get to working on this. Whenever you get to working on it? You DO understand how people might read that as being something of a slap in the face to the people who regularly visit and contribute to this forum - don't you? I would urge the people who actually make the decisions on such things to compare what is being done here to what other tech companies do on forums that they maintain. It's not just a matter of the image that WCG projects and helping to facilitate communication among members here so as foster a sense of community and resolve technical issues in most expedient manner possible but it's also a matter of the image IBM is projecting by having what amounts to 1986 Ford Taurus up on cinder blocks parked on its front lawn. |
