Can we get an x86 Android app? BOINC just released v7.2.39 that supports it but not WCG

So, now that the latest Android app supports the x86 processor, could we get some apps in the appropriate format?

I ask because with AMD adding ARM to a new Opteron line http://www.amd.com/us/press-releases/Pages/amd-to-accelerate-2014jan28.aspx and having 64bit capability, things will only get better for Android. This will encourage a 64bit version of Android.

I could only imagine that those of us looking for light weight (RAM) Linux virtual machine options would really find this appealing. It is a very simple install and updates quite easily too. These make it very appealing. Once Android supports 64 bit, I could only imagine that the VINA apps possibly seeing a good speed up too.

But, until we have the 64bit version, it would be nice to have x86 versions in production and ready.

I'm probably missing the obvious here, but I'm not getting how there could be a Android BOINC app that doesn't support WCG if all WCG projects run on BOINC - assuming that's part of what you're saying.

I get that the project apps have to be compiled for each specific platform, but don't they all run on Android? I have no idea since I've never tried to load BOINC on my phone or tablet.

Thanks for any info you can offer. smile

Because BOINC says that WCG doesn't have any type x86-android-linux-gnu

Could you be a bit more specific? I don't see anyone being denigrated anywhere in this 4 post thread. Perhaps you meant to post this somewhere else?

Enforcing the rules is great but doesn't work very well if no one knows to what you're referring.

??
Anyway, WCG only has FAHV coded for Android ARM. We do not have any projects coded for the much rarer Android x86 form.

lawrencehardin, that is the point of this thread...to ask if we could get one. Until now, we didn't have an x86 Android compatible BOINC client.

Coleslaw,
I am certain that applications for esoteric platforms such as Android/x86 will be available , precisely when they are no longer esoteric.
When an Android/x86 enabled tablet/phablet/phone/tv/fridge/freezer is available for purchase in YOUR local store, WCG will have an application that can run on it.
But NOT until it's in your pocket, home or workplace. That's just the way WCG rolls...

Unless your name happens to be A**trolobe, in which case you can get away with breaking the rules for months and months and months with no consequences whatsoever.
It's no wonder other members become frustrated, is it Ericka?
