connection to WCG does not work

For some time BOINC could not return results. Finaly I deleted BOINC configuration. When I try to add account all I get is "Please try leater".
This system worked well for a long time and I did not change anything (DEBIAN 8.3).
I tried also on VBox with clean system with the same resault.
If no one knows WHAT was f*** on side of BOINC/WCG then it is great way to lose people from grid.

Re: connection to WCG does not work

SakeRob, it's always better to admit "I do not know" than to write something useless like pointing to Debian.

Solution was not in any Debian FAQ (yes I know about openssl), but here
https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,38800
With thanks to TimSmall

PS. Stargate (vectors) and paraler uniwers are different concepts, better get them right next time.

Re: connection to WCG does not work

@Sylvester,
if you read carefully the post you referred to, you will notice that SekeRob contributed as well. He is right, there is (was) an issue with Debian.
Cheers,
Yves

Re: connection to WCG does not work

Thanks folks for the update.
I use Debian 8.3 and lost more than 20 days of work due to this issue.

The solution
https://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/forum_thread.php?id=11768
has worked for me:

$ wget http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/201...ificates_20141019_all.deb
$ sudo dpkg --purge --force-depends ca-certificates
$ sudo dpkg -i ca-certificates_20141019_all.deb

Exact, worked on my Debian 8.3

But when you launch update + upgrade command, "ca-certificates" wants to be updated... and for sure it will broke the Boinc communication...

Yes, waiting for an update to fix this !
Thx for the tips Sepmsk.

Re: connection to WCG does not work

See knreed post for Debian certificate bundle that works

https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=513965

You can download this file: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BOINC/boinc/master/curl/ca-bundle.crt and put it into the data directory for your client. After restarting the client you should be able to connect.

Think as long as you disallow for BOINC to be updated on Debian Jessie [until the bug fix is root-fixed], you will be fine.

Re: connection to WCG does not work

To me this is quite a problem because i'm not willing to reload old certificates on my system. Not everybody has the time to check the security impact of such changes and i'm pretty sure many people just see that the connection to WCG is broken and quit. Until this is fixed WCG looses my debian machine.

Hopefully you are not waiting until the current certificate runs out.
