Re: We're Ready to Support Climate Change and Environmental Research

Also, just out of curiosity, do any of the climate change projects have any potential at all to be run on a GPU?
It would be nice if there came Android WUs as well smile
smug - and it would be nice if the project started before the waves start licking at our coastal feet ....
... to put a rush on it seems appropriate cool

We're making good progress with Windows, so while we wouldn't have ruled out the option of launching Linux first, we're hopeful that we won't need to.

That might get some Windoze adherents to take the plunge. . . .

We don't anticipate that any of the three climate projects will run GPU versions or on Android.

Many thanks,
Juan

That's a shame. It looks like I will need to mothball the android devices this year or next -- unless Fight Aids at Home comes back online. cool

Re: We're Ready to Support Climate Change and Environmental Research

Two years,
Well at least I got the RYZEN 2 before this project comes out.
Might have to build my wife a RYZEN 3 build ;D
Maybe today I'll start work on my 5820K (needs reformatting etc).
Also hoping to get solar so I can work to help the climate without hurting the climate.

Agreed. I hope that WCG continues to provide work for Androids--I was looking forward to putting my Android farm to work for climate science. I know that Androids provide only a small portion of the work done on WCG, especially with the recent influx of major crunching power from the crypto teams and supercomputers with spare capacity, but it is a great way to keep folks engaged and get new volunteers on board as the world increasingly moves away from home computers to mobile devices.

Re: We're Ready to Support Climate Change and Environmental Research

I think that this question is bigger than simple announces of when will start the projects.
Need very hard and serious work of tech team behind the scenes.

Climate projects have hard data variables involved and need hard computation capabilities to run in production mode. The size of changes to port it for Windows , Linux, ARM or Apple System Operations must be a challenge in each step of the work.

Maybe the tech team owuld port it to run in GPU's too (a good idea to acelerate the evolution of the projects, but it will demand much more work too...).

So, stay tuned for newss, even if it happens just in the December of this year... wink biggrin
