01.29.2017-01.29.2018 1 Year and no news

This project has only one official news, the opening of itself (1y ago) and a semi-news at May 2017.
I understand that scientists have a LOT of things to do, but find 5 minutes to update the situation of the project, future developments, etc it's not a "mission impossible".

Nothing to scream off the rooftops, as yet, but there was news - in the forums -, that the project went tenfold in compounds to be explored:
Re: Viktors Updates
The Open Zika researchers have recently constructed a cleaned-up library of 30 million ligands (drug candidate compounds) for use in their drug search. They have kindly offered this library to the Smash Childhood Cancer project. This will increase the number of drug candidates the Smash Childhood Cancer project can process about ten-fold. I am in the process of transferring this data to them which should finish in a day or so. They will then construct new work units to use these additional ligands. There might be a few day pause while this all happens, but there should be considerably more work for the project on the current targets and any new targets if all goes well.

Does anyone remember when the last Ebola project update occurred? Over a year ago possibly....

Anyone remember the quarterly updates? I guess those were the good ole days....

One the surface one would think that Erika or Caitlin could attend the "monthly calls" (if those even happen) and issue brief project statuses. But that requires planning, fore-thought, initiative, and desire. Probably too expensive...

Yet again, we're being taken for granted. As has already been covered, I fully understand that the project scientists are very busy people - but, I'm sure that they could 'take 5' (perhaps during a coffee break) and post a brief 'thanks' etc. We're not after a chapter on 'War & Peace' each and every time they post (it'd be appreciated, but we're fully understand if one doesn't materialise), but just to hear that the scientists are 'still around' would be very much welcomed.

One of the real keys for keeping people crunching/contributing and coming back, is the interaction we've had in the past with the people behind the work we're crunching. If those updates are not forthcoming, then is it any wonder why people get disiilusioned.?

Re: 01.29.2017-01.29.2018 1 Year and no news

Since they are conference calls, why not let a member attend in "listen-only" mode and post a call summary afterwards with the stipulation that WCG approves the post before posting. The member would have to agree not to disseminate any information that WCG deems not public information. Any breech of the trust would be grounds for not continuing with the process. WCG could turn it into the ultimate "badge" by only including members who have reached a certain level of participation. As an example: only those members wishing to participate and have at least 5 100 year badges and/or who have contributed to WCG continuously for at least 10 years (reward for ultimate loyalty and contribution regardless of compute resources). Members meeting the criteria indicate their willingness to participate and their names are put into a rotation to serve for 6 months to year. If for whatever reason they wish to discontinue, they are replaced with next name. Missing more than 3 calls results in the next member taking the position. Just a thought.... No WCG resources required other than to select next participant.

Some good suggestions above. A quick summary of the conference calls posted after the call would certainly be appreciated. They would not need to be more than a couple of sentences. They could almost be generated off of a pick list if the writer were particularly lazy. For instance:
1:The project is proceeding a) as planned, b) nicely c) gloriously.
2:We are processing the crunchers results a) slowly b) as planned c) as soon as received.
3:Our progress on the project at this time is ____% complete.
4:We have experienced some unexpected delays due to a)hardware problems b) software problems c) lack of storage d) lack of funding e)lack of staff time.
5:We may change the scope of our project to include the following items______.
6:We appreciate the efforts of the crunchers for providing their a)hardware b)electricity c)time d)suggestions e)input.
If I gave it some further thought I am sure I could come up with several more semi-generic statements which would provide some information, but no proprietary secrets. A little periodic public relations work would go a long ways.
Cheers

Edit: missed a word

Re: 01.29.2017-01.29.2018 1 Year and no news

Hello all,

There is a Smash Childhood Cancer project update being worked on right now. Updates for this project take a bit longer because of the researchers extremely busy schedules, and the need to translate multiple drafts of the update from Japanese to English (and back).

An Outsmart Ebola Together project update is in the works, but we do not have an estimate for when it will be completed yet.

Please rest assured that we are always cognizant of requesting project updates from the researchers, and Caiti, Juan or I are usually on every researcher call to facilitate this.

Having a World Community Grid volunteer join a research call would not be possible, due to security and confidentiality reasons.

As always, we thank each of your for your continued support of World Community Grid,
ErikaT
