Re: Computers tips

That is pretty cool Vester , thank you wink

Here's a free utility to back up your email. It works with the nine most popular email programs, including Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Netscape Messenger, IncrediMail and PocoMail

Amic Email Backup

It looks simple enough. They also offer a keylogger prevention program.

A friend recommended it to me , will try yours and this

Re: Computers tips

I like Spybot Search & Destroy tools.
It is available free at http://www.majorgeeks.com
click spyware tools on the left, scroll down to it on the list.
They have a LOT of freeware.
I also like the parasite scan available at http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite with removal instructions.
For IE7, I use the tweaks at http://www.enhanceie.com to put the Menu bar back at the top (where it belongs) and increase the connection limit to 10.

Re: Computers tips

Have you tried F11 yet? It toggles between full screen, with all the tool bars hidden and part screen, showing title bar, address bar, tool bar, Google bar, Yahoo bar, AOL floating bar, Google side bar, etc.

While on the subject, have you tried the Google side bar's scratch pad? It works a bit like several clipboards with their contents visible, so there is no need to save any *.clp files. You can put several excerpts on the pad, expand it to make them all visible, select, rearrange, edit and cut or copy the ones you want to use immediately and ignore the rest until you want to use or delete them.

Re: Computers tips

Make sure to keep your Java Runtime Environment (JRE) up to date. Older versions of JRE can contain security vulnerabilities for Trojans:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vundo

The Vundo Trojan is a trojan horse that may cause popups advertising rogue antispyware programs. It infects victims' computers by exploiting a vulnerability in Sun Java 1.4 and earlier versions.

Re: Computers tips

Here's one to send the message home on display drivers, discussed in the Start Here FAQ's: Keep your screen-drivers up to date as both agents use newer graphics technology and the next BOINC release after 5.10 will have more novelty!

Note the OpenGL bit!
(it's what you get updating and not restarting the system)

Re: Computers tips

Ever wonder what's taking up all that space on your harddrive(s)? This nifty tool searches your entire drive and then sorts folders by their size:

Re: Computers tips

But no freeware. You can still google for aida32, its predecessor and for free.

I use this to get rid of spyware, including Spybot like Cargod:

Ad-Aware 2007 Free

Spybot-S&D

SpywareBlaster 3.5.1

And these are nice:

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP

wink
