biggrin HCC Program updated to 6.08

Greetings all,

We have just released the updated version of the HCC binary that was in BETA testing earlier in the week. The researchers have posted about the update here:

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28753

A few things to note with version 6.08.
1. The application runs between 2-3 times faster than previous version. What this means is more work being done in the same amount of time :)
2. At the beginning the estimated runtime for the work units will be off. So members will still see the average estimated time being around 5.5 hours until we start getting results back. This could take up to a week for the estimations to be proper.
3. Page Faults decreased even further.

We are happy to release the updates the researchers made to the application and speed improvements.

Thanks!

Great Job! Good see such a big advance, and one that was implemented so quickly. Any chance on getting a non-technical, brief synopsis on how the breakthrough was made ? I tried reading the update, but didn't quite "get it".

Re: HCC Program updated to 6.08

Planting them here, planting them there , planting them everywhere. The last v 6.06 finished some hours ago impatiently waiting for the new release, then 2 of 6.08 now sitting in buffer for primo attention. Let's see how fast we can move the thin light blue line down to the new run time average and the rest up of course... the left Y axis has lots of room for expansion.

crunching on

Re: HCC Program updated to 6.08

Just in case people were wondering, the total runtime for the project may dip a bit for the first few weeks as we adjust how many work units are sent out to make it even in the runtime category with the other projects.

Hello Steven Pletsch they optimalized the code of aplication.
The memoery allocation/dealocation algorythm was improved significantly. So less hard work with RAM so it speeded up the calculations. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I or much more experienced chruchers will be happy to answer.

Awesome! Let's tear through these WUs - and the project should get even more resource share when NRW is done shortly.

Did this fix the monster wu's for the mac? At least on my mac, I was getting monster wu's only to find out my wingman was completing them in 1/3 of the time.

Re: HCC Program updated to 6.08

Bearcat,

You may still see the differences in runtime as I don't think we ever figured out why your machine was running longer. BUT, it could have been due to the page faults, which have been greatly reduced in this version. Give the new app a try and let us know if you still encounter longer runtimes than others.
