Installing new version of Boinc on old Linux the easy way...

Just found this and I thought I'd share. :-)

Well , I prefer using an older version of Linux Mint (Mint 7 / Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty)
but when I install from the package manager I get an old Version of Boinc
and it doesn't recognize my Graphics cards (for MilkyWay etc...)
The manual install is problematic for me but I have found this...

https://launchpad.net/~pkg-boinc/+archive/ppa/+packages

In my case I picked the boinc - 6.10.58+dfsg-2~jaunty1

then on the next page
Builds
amd64

then on the next page at the bottom
right click and download from
Built files
boinc-client_6.10.58+dfsg-2~jaunty1_amd64.deb
and
boinc-manager_6.10.58+dfsg-2~jaunty1_amd64.deb

After download ,
Uninstall the old Boinc
Double click the .deb files and it installs automatically just
as from Package Manager with everything working on boot-up.

Now I have my old Linux with the new 6.10.58 Boinc !
Plus the GPUs are usable now and also I get the various other
improvements of the newer Boinc.

Re: Installing new version of Boinc on old Linux the easy way...

Thanks for that, though there is a dfsg-3 of 6.10.58 as debian build in the Maverick RPM. Been running that for the best part of 6 month without a hitch worth mentioning. These .deb kits integrate better than the .sh

Was not aware of this page and will give the 6.12.15 a try on Linux (but heed thé for it's buggy buggy... report them over at Berkeley alpha mail list, the place to discuss. Not fit for production as in ''set and forget'')
