Re: New badtes

Basing Badges on Points would be a seriously retrograde step sick particulary given the recent concerns about the operation of the Points system - CEP2 FAAH

Re: New badtes

Agreed, the best measure is about how much TIME you allow WCG to use on your equipment, Run time is great for badges wink

Re: New badges

I'm working on a short list of possible names which I'll publish tomorrow.

Hmm more of a "Long List" with 152 names of Users who might be entitled to 200Yr Project Badges or, in the case of the Active projects, have achieved 100Yr badges and are working towards 200Yrs. ! sad

Since the only information available on User contribution by project is when a Badge is awarded so it's impossible to narrow it down any further.

In theory, if they only ever crunched one project, any of the 248 users who have crunched >200 yrs RT could be entitled to a 200Yr Badge.

Two pieces of information are known which help reduce this number:

They must have already obtained a 100yr Badge in a project*
and
The RT used to obtain badges in other projects can determined.

In Summary:

  • 5 "Mega-Users" are entitled to, or working towards, 10 or more 200Yr Badges
  • 70 "Super-Users" are entitled to, or working towards, between 2-9 200Yr Badges
  • 77 Users 1 are entitled to, or working towards, 200Yr Badge

The 5 "Mega-Users" are:

marist_college
faah hpf2 dddt hcc1 rice hfcc cmd2 cep2 c4cw dsfl gfam sn2s mcm1
IBM
faah hpf2 hcc1 rice hfcc cmd2 c4cw dsfl gfam sn2s cfsw mcm1
RIT-ITS
faah hpf2 hcc1 rice hfcc cmd2 cep2 c4cw dsfl gfam sn2s mcm1
bankinter
faah hpf2 hcc1 hfcc cmd2 c4cw dsfl gfam sn2s mcm1
Dagda
faah hpf2 dddt hcc1 rice hfcc cep2 dsfl gfam sn2s

* It occurs to me that it might be of interest to see how many 100Yr badges are out there so that's the next thing to look at. wink

Re: New badges

so only about 150 people would qualify for the 200 yr badge. Not too many.

Re: New badges

1 is enough to want to stay ahead of the game.
Further, the 100 year people would want a goal, and anyone that already has the last badge would want a new goal.

As fast as the high end ones are crunching, there is probably a need for 200yr, 500yr badges. Past that we might have to go to abbreviated scientific notation for recognitition to keep it at three characters for legibility for each project.
biggrin but somewhat serious cool

1000 = 1x10**3 is commonly abbreviated 1E3
2E3 = 2000
5E3 = 5000
1E4 = 10,000
2E4 = 20,000
5E4 = 50,000
1E5 = 100,000
2E5 = 200,000
5E5 = 500,000
1E6 = 1,000,000
.....
5E9 = 5,000,000,000 is as far as I would want to go with three characters.

In metric, you'd use K (kilo) for thousand, M (mega) for million, G (giga) for billion and T (tera) for trillion.

sooo....
1K = 1000
2K = 2000
5K = 5000
10K= 10,000
20K = 20,000
50K = 50,000
1HK = 100,000 (got'ta do something)
2HK = 200,000
5HK = 500,000
1M = 1,000,000
2M = 2,000,000
5M = 5,000,000
----- 10s and 100s
1G
2G
5G
----- 10s and 100s
1T
2T
5T

peta P quadrillion
exa E quintillion
zetta Z sextillion
yotta Y septillion
could take it to the top of the currently assigned metric prefixes, so that should be overly sufficient for each project. Those are short scale numbers, not using milliards, billiards, etc.

There would also be enough high end room for a global badge. Mine is 33 years so far, so would be worth 20 years globally.

There are some custom bitcoin mining rigs out there, since faster and faster ones are needed to mine new ones in competition with the other miners. After they are all mined, can the machines be used for general computing like this?
Answer: For custom bitcoin chips, NO.
