OK, good point to take this one as the general discussion thread on the present SSL cert issues. As I reported here in a hijacked thread, no problems with Ubuntu 14.04 and client 7.2.42: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=496666
----------------------------------------The kick off of the issue is likely related to server side certificate renewals, see post knreed. One member observer there was a change from using SHA1 (Secure Hash Algorithm or something like that) to SHA-256. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 11, 2015 6:16:26 PM] |

Just a long shot, can you force a work fetch by increasing the minimum buffer setting. All reports but one seen only want to report results, not fetch.

None of this or anything in the links has been of any use in correcting my problem as presented here;
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=496672 I have one other source of WUs that I occasionally use; malariacontrol.net which I enabled again today, received WUs, finished some, reported them fine. |

Did a quick test on an old machine using Puppy Linux 5.7.1 CD:
Using ver. 6.10.58 i686 client with OpenSSL 0.9.8g, WCG would not connect stating an ssl error. Using ver. 6.11.7 i686 client with OpenSSL 1.0.1, WCG connected fine. |

Thanks for testing. This is a knreed case to gloss over as those running on domain controller systems e.g. can't at this time go up to anything above 5.10.45. Can't see many people hacking into the OpenSSL component and substitute. Maybe those FreeBSDers, so very hands on, have no issue with that ;D

I am running Debian Unstable (Sid) most of the time. Have testing and stable installed too.
Boinc installed from download and installed with the boinc install script so it is in user land. This is convenient for me as it makes it quite portable between installs. Tried it in a Stable (Debian 8, Jessie) install last night. Same song and dance. Jessie uses openssl 1.1 Sid is using 1.0.2d-1 which was installed as a security upgrade on the 9th. Your post was of interest to me as I have actually been using 6.10.58 (64bit). This is because none of the newer ones would actually run on my old box. Using same Hdd. Got me to wondering about that. So downloaded and installed 7.0.65 and it runs fine with the malariacontrol.net WUs but same song and dance about connecting with WCG. Just to add to that I have the one WU to report and then a bunch that have been tring to be uploaded. 31 by my count.
I only use a cache of about half a day. Get a lot of repair units. Have 3 due tomorrow. Tried upping it to 2 days. Makes no difference at all. |

ugh - frustrating. We needed to move to the newer sha hashing since the browsers makers are close to marking sites that support the old algorithim as unsafe (if you looked in the console logs on the browser with the old certificate, you already got a warning message).
Can one of you who is experiencing this issue please add a cc_config.xml file (as indicated here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/client_configuration) and set the following flags to 1: http_debug http_xfer_debug and then let us know what your logs show. thanks! Kevin |

Here is a little background on the issue:
Google's initial warning that they were going to push sha-1 out: along with lots of background info: https://konklone.com/post/why-google-is-hurrying-the-web-to-kill-sha-1 A more recent update and explanation of user experience if sites continued with sha-1 certificates that would expire in 2017 (which is what our new certificate would have been): https://www.elie.net/blog/security/19.5-perce...sha-1-signed-certificates |
