Re: Transition Talk

First of all, thanks to IBM for having created the World Community Grid.

Secondly, I think this can be very good. World Community Grid will now be run by a research institute.

Thirdly, I'm very excited about the future science projects alluded to in the article, including the Parkinson project (which I assume is run by someone at Krembil). Hopefully, we can get many more projects going.

Re: Transition Talk

Will the project staff from IBM/WCG also move to Krembil Research Institute?

Re: Transition Talk

This is not good news.
Projects do not grow by leaving one of the worlds largest companies to 'seek funding from diverse sources'.
IBM ditched the World Community Grid and Krimbal was nice enough to keep the project going. But their staff have other projects.

It's a lot easier to recruit people to WCG when I say it's IBM curating the projects, because people trust IBM. The only people who know about KRI are Canadians. That's gonna be one more complicated thing we have to explain before donors agree to participate.

The links in the announcement are broken for me, they appear to be relative links without the base website id.

Re: Transition Talk

I suspect IBM took the decision to part company 3 years ago, which was when their team started to massively scale back on the number of hosts that ran WCG.
Clearly this is a major win for Krembil. Not so sure about science overall.
