2022-12-21 Update (OPN1 WUs)

OPN1 is entering a planned pause while researchers prepare the next round of molecular docking experiments for OPN1 and OPNG projects
As mentioned in a previous update, OPN team is finalizing protein conformations for the viral protease PLPro, which will be the target for the next phase of OPN1 and OPNG molecular docking experiments sent out to volunteers. Once the new workunits are prepared and ready, we will resume sending both OPN1 and OPNG workunits to volunteers. Similarly to SCC - this is a planned pause. We will provide an update as soon as we have an ETA for the new workunits.

If you have any comments or questions, please leave them in this thread for us to answer. Thank you for your support, patience and understanding.

WCG team

Re: 2022-12-21 Update (OPN1 WUs)

I'll survive without OPN1 and OPNG. Due to the actions of Vlad the Impaler, I'm only crunching 1-2 tasks/ day, and only on a very low power Laptop.

Does this mean more compute will be available for mapping cancer markers? How much backlog of work units are there for that

Hi danwat1234, we've heard other volunteers say they aren't getting a lot of MCM tasks either so we are checking on their status. If we see a problem, we will likely address it in an update. If we are able to find the issue and fix it (or it fixes itself), we'll roll them out for everyone to download.

Thank you for the project update. I would be interested to know how far through the project we are percentagewise.

Re: 2022-12-21 Update (OPN1 WUs)

I have heard that too however that is what I mostly crunch and I'm on the leaderboard top 5 most days, mostly MCM. My pile of boxes seem to always have a nice large queue of MCM perhaps I'm getting priority for some reason.
I'd love to have an update as to percentagewise how far along this batch of work units is for cancer markers, +1speedy51

Re: 2022-12-21 Update (OPN1 WUs)

Well that's a bummer because OPN was the last WCG project with ARM binaries.

I wish some other was ported to ARM64 too, like MCM.

A typical Africa Rainfall task would take more than a week on ARM machine, so maybe let's skip that one..

Yeah, I wouldn't want to try running one on a Pi 3, but an Ampere or an M1/M2 Mac would be a different story. ARM is growing up.
